Find A Gig Series: Taking Stock

This series called “Find A Gig” exists to provide you an intern or potential employee with tips, tools and tricks for landing your #internship or first job!

The first “Find A Gig” is centered around Taking Stock 📝. Today, I have a few questions for you:

1️⃣ Why are you seeking an internship? Is it required for graduation or are you trying to get your foot in the door?

2️⃣Are you looking for an opportunity directly related to your major/field of study or gain exposure to new disciplines?

3️⃣ Can you afford to be unpaid? Not everyone has that privilege so be clear with your prospects about taking on a paid opportunity.

4️⃣ Do you have any companies or organizations already in mind? If not, start doing research into who might be a fit for you. We’ll talk about what to look for in a future post. ☺️

5️⃣ Consider your previous experience, what type of environment do you perform well in? What have you found frustrating about work? These will help shape your search.

It is important to take an inventory of where you are at with your job search journey. Asking and answering these questions for yourself will give you direction and clarity to apply to your search. Not only helpful in discerning which opportunities are attractive for you to apply too but also where you may be happy in the long term and understanding how you like to be managed. These thoughts can lead to better questions to ask your potential employer about their work environments because an interview is a two-way assessment, not just one way in favor of the employer.
